Pauline Urabe
3rd Grade
I have been working for the Sacramento City Unified School District for more than 21 years after attending CSU, Sacramento for both my B.A. in Early Childhood Development plus a minor in Social Welfare, as well as my Multiple Subjects teaching credential. I am currently a 3rd grade teacher at Ethel Phillips Elementary. I have worked at this site since 1997, where I started out as a teacher-tutor for struggling readers.
I have taught 2nd grade for over 15 years, with a few exceptions. One exception was the opportunity to teach a split 2nd-3rd grade classroom twice, which was a challenge, but also a chance to study the 3rd grade standards. Then I have taught 3rd grade for 4 years. This was helpful because NOW I truly understand my student’s expectations for the both grade levels. The other opportunities were during one summer, I took over a dear friend’s 1st grade classroom for her maternity leave in the Elk Grove Unified School District and Summer School Kindergarten. This then gives me the insight to the standards prior to 3rd grade to better prepare my teaching.
I now feel very versed in the standards leading to my current grade level as well as how to support and challenge students to reach and surpass the Common Core State standards. I am very grateful for the opportunity to service this district and especially the families at Ethel Phillips. I have participated in the Parent Teacher Home Visit for over 20 years and am looking forward to meeting new families to share in their hopes and dreams. Ethel Phillips is a wonderful school with teachers willing to work together to achieve student success!
